Applying feng shui principles to your office can help you have a better day and be more effective at work.  Keep things simple; notice what happens as a result of shifts that you make.

1)      Have a clear and welcoming entrance.  It should be free, clear and open as wide as possible.  Use the entrance to welcome chi and encourage it to meander throughout your space vs. restrict it.

2)      Put your desk in the power position by having a wide view of the room and a view of the door (but not in line with the door).  If this is not possible, add a mirror to provide a view of the door. A view of the door relaxes the nervous system and minimizes surprises. Clear your desktop of unnecessary paper and items daily. Keep the center clear for work. Maintain one “to do” list.

3)      Keep everything clean, neat and organized. There is no room for clutter in a profitable business. Things that you don’t use or love generate stagnation. Wherever you move clutter, problems are likely to manifest if it remains in place longer than 30 days. Completely clear out excess paper, file cabinets and computer files (including email) annually, at minimum. Toss out junk mail as it arrives. Clearing out energizes your business and creates space for new opportunities.

4)      The center of your space reflects the core of your business. Place something meaningful here. It’s a good spot for your mission, vision and core values.  A symbol of wealth and abundance in the back left corner helps to enhance your profits. If you would like to strengthen partnerships, add something symbolic to the back right corner. The front right corner relates to helpful people. Place a round, curved or metal object here to encourage synchronicity and the right people showing up at the right time.

5)      Water is an excellent chi enhancer and can be used to promote prosperity. If you have a water feature make sure that it faces in toward the business and not out the door.  Water energy is excellent in your prosperity area.

6)      Fresh plants help clean the air. Place plants close to your computer and other electrical items. They clean the air, remove toxins and help to balance EMFs. Make sure your plants are well maintained. Remove any that are unhealthy. Plant health parallels your health.

7)      Hang art and pictures that are uplifting.  Art that is upbeat, colorful and positive will help to create a happy and energized workplace. Negative art pulls your energy down. Remove anything that you don’t care for, images that do not favorably reflect your business and images that keep you tied to the past.

8)      Full spectrum lighting is better for you than florescent lighting. It mimics sunlight, contains all colors of the spectrum, and triggers serotonin production, which in turn, helps lift your mood and create good feelings. Replace your incandescent and florescent bulbs with full spectrum bulbs. LEDs are an excellent alternative. They are the bulb of the future. Avoid using CFL bulbs, they are not healthy for us. You can turn off overhead lights and use task lighting.

9)      Balance your office according to your business needs. A quiet and contemplative space promotes thinking and planning. A bright, active area is good for communication and high energy. If you are performing quiet activities in a bright and active environment (and vice versa) it creates unnecessary strain and tension. Use color, fabrics, light, art, etc. to create the right setting for your business.

Whatever you do, conduct all interactions with positive intentions. Negative thoughts, feelings, intentions and actions will circle back to you, often when you least expect it. Everything is related, one way or another to energy,  linking us within our ever expanding universe.
